Membership Overview

Introduction to Membership:

The Union of Afro-Asian Universities (UAAU) offers membership to universities, academic institutions, research centers, scientific societies, and individuals across Africa and Asia. This membership provides an opportunity to engage in a collective academic platform for intellectual dialogue, scientific research, and collaboration. By joining the Union, members contribute to a thriving academic network that enhances the educational landscape and advances research and innovation across these two continents.

Membership Criteria:

Membership in the UAAU is voluntary and open to a variety of educational entities, including universities, institutes, academic institutions, research centers, societies, and individuals who align with the Union’s vision and goals. Specific criteria for membership are as follows:

  • Field of Influence & Specialization: Applicants must demonstrate relevance to the academic, research, or scientific sectors, with a focus on improving education and fostering intellectual discourse.
  • Geographical Distribution: The Union seeks to ensure balanced representation from across Africa and Asia.
  • Commitment to Quality: Applicants must meet a certain standard of academic and research quality, aligned with the Union’s objectives.
  • Consistency with Union Goals: The Union’s mission focuses on promoting knowledge exchange, scientific research, and academic collaboration, and applicants must share these goals.

Membership Types:

Membership includes various entities such as:

  • Universities: Public and private universities offering accredited higher education programs.
  • Institutes and Academies: Institutions specializing in specific disciplines or professional training.
  • Scientific Centers and Societies: Research institutions and organizations focused on advancing knowledge.
  • Individuals: Researchers, academics, and innovators seeking to contribute to the union’s mission.

How to Become a Member:

To apply for membership in the Union of Afro-Asian Universities, the following steps must be completed:

  1. Submit an Official Application: This includes filling out a membership application form, which can be obtained from the General Secretariat.
  2. Provide Accreditation Documents: Submit copies of documents proving official recognition and accreditation for your institution or organization.
  3. Declaration of Compliance: Submit a formal declaration stating your commitment to comply with the Union’s system and executive regulations.
  4. Payment of Membership Fees: Membership fees are due upon acceptance of membership, as detailed below.

Membership Fees:

The following annual fees apply to different categories of membership:

  • Universities: 1000 Euro (or its equivalent in local currency).
  • Institutes: 500 Euro (or its equivalent in local currency).
  • Institutions, Societies, and Research Centers: 300 Euro (or its equivalent in local currency).
  • Individuals: Initial membership fee of 100 Euro (or equivalent), with an annual renewal fee of 50 Euro (or equivalent).

Terms and Conditions for Membership:

  1. Voluntary and Conditional: Membership in the Union is voluntary, and acceptance is based on adherence to criteria established by the Union’s General Secretariat. The Executive Council reviews applications and approves membership based on the applicant’s alignment with the Union’s goals.

  2. Equality of Rights and Duties: All members enjoy equal rights and responsibilities within the Union. Once accepted, members can participate in Union activities, vote, nominate candidates for leadership roles, and take part in decision-making processes.

  3. Obligations and Withdrawal: Members must fulfill their obligations, including annual fee payments. If a member wishes to withdraw, they must notify the Executive Council at least one year in advance.

  4. Non-Compliance: If a member engages in activities harmful to the Union or fails to fulfill their obligations, the Union has the right to freeze membership after issuing a warning. If non-compliance continues after one year, membership may be revoked following a vote by the Executive Council.

  5. Special Conditions for Scientific Societies: Scientific societies or institutions involved in extracurricular or pre-university activities can apply for membership as a worker or observer, subject to approval by the Executive Council.

  6. Political and Sectarian Neutrality: Membership is not open to organizations that operate based on political, sectarian, or discriminatory practices, nor to those advocating violence or hate.

Rights of Members:

  • Full Participation: Members are entitled to participate fully in all Union activities, including General Assembly sessions and Executive Council meetings.
  • Voting and Nomination: Members have the right to vote in the General Assembly and can nominate candidates for leadership positions within the Union.
  • Collaborative Opportunities: Members gain access to research collaborations, academic partnerships, and networking opportunities with institutions across Africa and Asia.
  • Visibility and Recognition: Members’ logos will be displayed on the Union’s website, publications, and at major events.

*Equal Rights and Duties : All members, upon acceptance, are equal in rights and responsibilities. Membership is continuous unless withdrawn with one year’s notice or terminated due to non-compliance with union policies.

Termination and Revocation of Membership:

The Union retains the right to revoke or freeze membership if a member is found in violation of the Union’s policies or fails to meet the required standards. This includes but is not limited to:

  • Failure to comply with Union regulations after receiving multiple warnings.
  • Engagement in activities contrary to the Union’s values and mission.
  • Non-payment of membership fees after a specified grace period.

In the event of membership termination, the member loses all rights associated with the Union from the date of the Executive Council’s decision. Members are required to fulfill all financial obligations up until the final decision is made.
