Head of the Scientific Committee of the “Women’s Issues” Conference, Karima Bou Amri: The “Women’s” Conference reflects Morocco’s interest in women’s issues and highlights their role and status in society.
Professor Karima Bouamri, Chair of the Scientific Committee for the “Women’s Issues” Conference, stated that holding the conference on “Contemporary Women’s Issues Among Reformists: Challenges and Solutions” in Morocco highlights the country’s role and dedication to women’s issues. This reflects the practical application of the Quranic text and the implementation of the Prophet Muhammad’s (PBUH) advice to “treat women well,” a principle followed by the leaders of this nation, which has achieved a unique distinction among Arab and Islamic countries and has become a model for other nations, institutions, and academic circles.
She added that this approach combines worldly progress with adherence to Sharia law, aiming to highlight the role and status of women in society as mothers, sisters, daughters, aunts, and grandmothers. Morocco’s efforts to showcase Islam’s excellence in women’s rights, both in principle and application, and to affirm Islam’s greatness in protecting these rights, addressing misconceptions, and emphasizing the identity and rights of Muslim women in international charters and conferences, are significant.
Bouamri emphasized in a press interview on the sidelines of the “Contemporary Women’s Issues” Conference that the conference aims to establish the Sharia, scientific, and purposive foundations of women’s rights, and to demonstrate Islam’s greatness in preserving and protecting women’s rights. It also seeks to raise awareness among the general public, especially women and decision-makers, about women’s rights guaranteed by Islam and civil and legal systems.
Professor Karima Bouamri chairs the Scientific Committee for the “Contemporary Women’s Issues” Conference, organized by the Union of Afro-Asian Universities in collaboration with Mohammed V University, represented by the Faculty of Legal, Economic, and Political Sciences, and various research and academic institutions from September 7-8. She is a professor of higher education at the Faculty of Arts and Humanities at Mohammed V University.
She mentioned that the conference’s scientific committee received more than 45 scientific abstracts in a very short time, indicating the conference’s success. She noted the diversity of research abstracts received from various Arab, Islamic, and Western countries. The diversity reflects the importance of the issues addressed by the conference and the interest of researchers and thinkers, as well as the engagement of those interested in discussing important issues, especially those raised in Morocco and organized by the Union of Universities in collaboration with the prestigious Mohammed V University.
Regarding the conference topics, Bouamri said they vary, including women in the writings of contemporary reformists, the nature and constitution of women in the messages of light, marriage regulations and child-rearing methods in the thought of Imam Nursi, body culture and the issue of hijab in Imam Nursi’s thought, the continuity of the relationship between men and women in this world and the hereafter from the perspective of the messages of light, educational reform in Imam Bediuzzaman Nursi’s thought, women in the writings of Sheikh Muhammad Al-Ghazali, and women in the writings of Sheikh Muhammad Metwali Al-Shaarawi.

Bouamri also noted that the conference will address artificial women’s issues, their motives, goals, and ways to address them, the status of women in Islam between textual frameworks and theoretical issues, discrimination against women between international perspectives and Islamic Sharia, mechanisms for developing feminist movements and discourse according to Islamic Sharia, common rights and duties between men and women, mechanisms for cooperation and integration, women’s physical and moral health and its impact on societal stability, women’s role in family reform, child-rearing, and spouse care—the current reality and aspirations—and the role of international organizations in fueling conflict between men and women. It will also discuss the concept of equality, women’s freedom, their right to work, and organizational mechanisms in light of Sharia.
The Scientific Committee Chair also mentioned that conference papers will be published in the journal “Researches,” a specialized, peer-reviewed, and indexed scientific journal issued quarterly by the London Research and Consulting Center in the UAE. The journal focuses on publishing research in social sciences and started its first issue in June 2014. It has published 43 regular and special issues until the end of 2021, with international and Arab impact factors.
The journal has a high scientific advisory board composed of 25 academics with professor titles from ten Arab and foreign countries, a scientific committee of 23 assistant and associate professors, and an independent editorial board of eight specialized professors.
Bouamri stated that the journal’s editorial board is chaired by Sheikha Maysoun bint Mohammed Al Qasimi, with the honorary president being HRH Princess Manal bint Msaad Al Saud. The general manager is Professor Dr. Nasser Al-Fadhli – a member of the British Research Institute – with editorial leadership by Professor Dr. Abdul Malik Al-Dinani, and Assistant Editor-in-Chief Professor Dr. Hanan Obeid, and Editor Dr. Mohamed Abdel Aziz, who is also the conference manager and general coordinator of conferences at the Union of Universities.
